Statement of Values
Music and Kids is a community non-profit formed in 2017 that is focused on teaching and enriching the lives of our students through music. As we grow, Music and Kids has developed a 9 point plan that speaks to the passion, innovative spirit, and creativity in which people are working towards a positive change.
That includes:
1. Clear and consistent communication of the commitment to equity and inclusion and the ownership of these goals by all employees.
2. Employing teachers from the Antelope Valley because the demographics ensures a diverse candidate pool that helps us with equity and inclusion.
3. Sharing information and best practices that advance individual and organizational learning around race equity and structural racialization.
4. Identify actions and strategies that can transcend traditional divisions between the civil, criminal, and juvenile justice systems, promote race equity, and eliminate structurally radicalized systems and practices.
5. Build meaningful community partnerships that ensure that communities most harmed by poverty and racial inequities are participatory in policies, actions and decisions that may affect them.
6. Listen for understanding and connection.
7. Develop ongoing learning opportunities to develop greater racial justice competence skills. Encourage leadership to model this behavior by correcting their mistakes openly in front of staff, volunteers, and other community members.
8. Create opportunities to listen to the voices directly from community, grassroots, or young leaders in low-income, under-served and/or marginalized populations within its community.
9. Make sure our collaborative and community partners uphold our values.
