teaching, learning, funding...
the language of music
Music and Kids is a 501(c)(3) non-profit established to bridge the growing gap between government funded educational programs and private funding. As we see less and less funding allocated from state and federal budgets for Music and Art education, the short fall needs to be picked up by private funding.
|
Our goal is to enroll 10,000 kids in the Antelope Valley, Southern California, and beyond in private, one-on-one, after school music lessons with qualified teachers. Through fundraising and sponsorships by local, regional, and national businesses and foundations, Music and Kids is bringing money into the economy of the Antelope Valley by providing funding for AV teachers to work with talented AV students, allowing the students to develop their vocal and instrumental talents, as well as their knowledge of music theory and performance skills.

Music and Kids
|
why music? For some young people, music is their team sport. It provides a role in a group with a common goal, and the unit together creates a beautiful whole. They learn to rely on one another, trust one another, and learn to work in that team environment. They develop friendships and a support system. It keeps them focused on a goal and many develop a passion and a purpose.
|
scholarshipsScholarships opportunities are available to students registered with Music and Kids. Customized Pilot programs
In addition to providing scholarships for individual students, Music and Kids can also create customized pilot programs to suit partner organizations. Here are a couple of examples of pilot programs created to provide music lessons for more students.

In partnership with the City of Palmdale, Music and Kids is working to provide one-on-one music education with paid, qualified instructors to students in Palmdale. Through this partnership, Music and Kids will administer all music programs at the City of Palmdale’s Gabriel’s House.
Music and Kids will be the engine that will provide qualified instructors to develop and implement arts-related activities through our Gabriel’s House program. -- Mike Miller, Palmdale’s Director of Neighborhood Services
For more than five years, Gabriel’s House has provided free musical instruments, equipment and instruction to youth ages 8 to 18, thanks to financial donations by groups such the Warnack Foundation and the AV Business Expo. Instructors have volunteered their time.
Under the new partnership, Music and Kids will take the lead in providing quality instruction and programming at no charge to the participating youth.
Especially for music lessons where individualizing the lesson is so important, having students learning in a one-on-one environment with a paid, qualified instructor provides a much more stable program for both the students and the teachers.
-- Chuck Murphy, singer-songwriter, recording artist, and founder of Music and Kids
Fundraising efforts are underway to provide adequate staffing to meet the needs and provide learning opportunities for the students. Donations for Gabriel’s House programming may be made at www.musicandkids.org.
In spring 2019, the Gabriel’s House program will move from the Neighborhood House location on 6th St. East to its new location at Courson Arts Colony East, located at 939 East Avenue Q-12 in Palmdale.
Fundraising for the Gabriel’s House music programs will be conducted and administered by Music and Kids. Donations to Music and Kids can be designated for the general fund, to specifically help students in the City of Palmdale, or to help students in any region being serviced by Music and Kids. Please note your wishes when making your donation or pledge.
