SCHolarship levels & Rules for Applicants
Jan 2023
Scholarships opportunities are available to students registered with Music and Kids at two levels. Students must maintain certain academic criteria, demonstrate progress in their musical ability, and participate in our public performances to continue enrollment in the program.
All teachers being paid for lessons with Music and Kids funding must be registered with and approved by the Music and Kids organization.
Standard Level: Three (3)-month scholarship, providing twelve (12), weekly, one-on-one music lessons for one qualified student through one approved teacher.
Prize Level: Six (6)-month scholarship, providing twenty-four (24), weekly, one-on-one music lessons for one qualified student through one approved teacher. Prize level scholarships are awarded to students at Jr. Star Search competitions hosted by Music and Kids.
A qualified student is between the ages of twelve (12) through eighteen (18), or within a three-month grace period, at the beginning of the scholarship period, is enrolled at an accredited school in the Antelope Valley region of California, and maintains a minimum of a C average (70 or above on a 10-point scale, 77 or above on a 7-point scale), and participate in a minimum of three (3) Music and Kids public performances per quarter.
To renew a scholarship, qualified students must also demonstrate progress in their musical ability over the course of each scholarship period. The Music and Kids teacher will be asked to submit a progress report at the end of each scholarship period in support of the student’s scholarship renewal. Students who do not maintain their school GPA, do not demonstrate progress, do not participate in our public performances, or age out of the program will not be eligible for renewal. Students who receive prize level scholarships through one of the Music and Kids competitions will be renewed at the standard level at the end of their initial 6-month period, if they meet the criteria for eligibility and demonstrate progress.
